Sail with me Granny Rectangle Blanket Pattern

Updated: Jun 29

With the heatwave we are having in the UK, it's the perfect time to make an airy granny rectangle blanket. Made in one continuous piece, it is easy to modify the size to best suit your needs. Using the most simple crochet stitches, this blanket is easy and works up quickly so it makes the perfect project to unwind with whilst you watch a show or listen to music/podcasts/an audio book.

My favourite colour is blue so I was excited to choose this beautiful vibrant colour of Wander yarn for this project. Paired with a brilliant white, the perfect combo for a bright summer blanket.

Pattern is written in US terminology.

Rnd 13: 3 sc, ch 2, 3 sc in same corner, *ch 2, skip cluster, sc in between hdc cluster rep to next corner, 3 sc, ch 2, 3 sc in corner,** rep from * to ** around to last corner, ch 2 skip cluster, sc in between each cluster to end, sl st in starting sc, sl st in next 2 sts, sl st in corner, change back to colour B.

Rnd 14: Rep Rnd 2.

Rnds 15-22: Rep Rnd 2.

Rnds 23-42: Rep Rnds 3-22.

Continue repeating pattern rows 3-22 until blanket has reached desired dimensions.

Please note that you may need less yarn if opting to make a smaller blanket or extra yarn if opting to add extra rounds at this stage.

Once desired size has been reached, fasten off, weave in ends.

Finishing

After any additional length is added, you can add an optional sc in each st around perimeter of rectangle to create a border. Alternatively, finish on any of the pattern rows once the intended blanket size has been reached as the edges are already straight and neat. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Block your Sail with me Granny rectangle blanket (Sample was steam blocked). Depending on any amendments you may have made, you may not have the same amount of rounds/rows specified so you will just want to lay it flat and block it to open up the granny stitch pattern.

I loved making this blanket and so did my little helper.

If you make it, feel free to tag me on instagram or facebook @inthestitchwithvix and use #sailwithmegrannyrectangleblanket so I can see what colours you have paired and if you have opted to use more than 2 colours as a scrappy project or if you have stuck with 2 contrasting colours like my sample.
