Practical Homeware that the whole family will love
Updated: May 23, 2022
Have you ever wanted to make a super squishy bean bag chair but are not sure where to start? This blog post will take you over the basics for making your very own knitted bean bag chair cover. I have always loved beanbags but never owned one before making this one. It was intended to be a Christmas present for my daughter but some things don't always go to plan so I ended up finishing it in the new year of 2021. Now it is over a year old and still holding up pretty well. Keep reading below to find out how I made this.
This is a very simple design created by using my Addi Knitting machine to make 4 flat rectangular panels. I then seamed along the long edges of all 4 panels to create a long and wide tube.
I purchased the bean bag filling on Ebay and an extra stocking to double up in the hopes that this would keep the polystyrene balls from escaping. I have had some pop through but based on the amount of usage this gets, it is a very small amount.
I also purchased a long zip from Hobbycraft so that I could remove the cover and wash it as and when needed. I slip stitched across the top of one of the open edges, and sewed the zip across the bottom opening, inserted the stocking full of beans and voila!
Using the knitting machine made this such a quick knitted bean bag chair cover but I would love to make some more, experimenting with different stitch patterns and making a crochet one as well would be so much fun!
Have you ever made a bean bag chair cover? If not, why not give it a shot?
